Coeur d'Alene woman dies after driving into Fernan Lake

Officials with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said the woman who drove into Fernan Lake died overnight.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho-- A Coeur d'Alene woman died after driving into Fernan Lake Sunday.

Officials with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said 40-year-old Pepper Richardson died during the night after being listed as critical condition at Kootenai Health.

Officials said Richardson, was rescued out of the lake 27 minutes after the first 911 call.

The driver was the only occupant in the car.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's office said that speed and alcohol may be the factor of the crash.

Fernan Lake is located just east of Coeur d'Alene.

Correction: In an earlier version it stated that Pepper was a male, but officials have confirmed that the driver was a woman.
