COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho --- A small plane crashed at the Coeur d’Alene airport just before 1:40 on Monday afternoon, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities said their preliminary investigation showed the plane was taking off from the airport, but then “for unknown reasons, abruptly crashed.”
The pilot, Frank Gordon, 61, only suffered minor injuries in the crash. KCSO said he was conscious and alert when medical personnel arrived at the scene.
The airplane had extensive damage to the engine area and right wing, KCSO said. It came to rest along a taxiway within the airport’s fenced property near Ramsey Road and Wyoming Avenue, KCSO reported.
The NTSB will investigate the incident.
