HAYDEN LAKE, Idaho. --- People are going to great lengths to try and sink a dead deer floating in the water in Idaho.

Last week, a jet skier crashed into the deer carcass.

"It's not something you'd expect to encounter when you're out on a lake trying to recreate and have fun,” said Hayden Lake resident, John Reynoso.

Thankfully the jet skier was not hurt.

Neighbors said if the wind is blowing just right, you can even smell the carcass.

"It's definitely not looking extremely fresh, I would say,” said Reynoso.

Another neighbor said they could see a rope hanging off the deer's neck, and on the other side of the rope was a cinder block.

"Gangly and smelly at that. I wouldn't want to get any closer than I already am, I can tell you that,” said Reynoso.

Reynoso’s neighbor said he talked to Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office about the carcass.

Fish and Wildlife were not available to comment on the matter.

Both Reynoso and the other neighbor are a little frustrated by that.

“That's got to be some kind of a health hazard, a safety hazard,” said Reynoso.

The neighbor said he offered to pick up the deer carcass using his own boat, but claims a deputy advised him not to do that.
