COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- Coeur d’Alene Police said bones were found by two children in a rock quarry on Sunday.

CDA Police said the children were exploring the quarry behind Central Premix on West Kathleen Avenue when they made the discovery. The children directed police to the area of the quarry where the bones were located.

Officials said the remains appear to be human and they believe they have been in the quarry for a significant amount of time.

As of Wednesday evening, police had no information about the identity of the remains or the cause of death. Authorities said this is an active investigation.
