SANDPOINT, Idaho – The first solar roadway panel was completed and installed on Sunday morning at Jeff Jones Square.

Solar Roadways were founded by Scott Brusaw as an alternative to asphalt roads. The evolution of the project has spanned over a decade.

The solar panels are engineered to support driving, parking and walking. They are heated enough to stay snow and ice-free. They also have programmable LED lights to configure the lines and parking lots.

Brusaw said that if we were able to use smart panels, the United States could produce three times the amount of energy we use as a nation.
