SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. --- On Monday, a missing Spokane Valley girl was found safe after an Amber Alert went out in many parts of Washington and Idaho.

Many people expressed relief on KREM 2’s Facebook page after the 6-year-old was found safe in Spokane.

Data shows these phone Amber Alerts have gone a long way in helping recover missing kids.

According to the Justice Department, in 2014, 40 percent of Amber Alerts were resolved within hours of the alert going out to people.

While not scientific, there is evidence that suggests Amber Alerts also prevent missing kids from being harmed. In 2014, 239 kids were featured in Amber Alerts nationwide. Sadly, six kids did not survive. However, the vast majority were found safe.

By estimate, three quarters of the Amber Alert cases involved family members.

In fact, there was not a single Amber Alert in 2014 involving a random stranger.
