SPOKANE, Wash.—The air quality in Spokane has plummeted to the unhealthy for all category Thursday.

The air quality index from the state of Washington’s Department of Ecology had Spokane rated at 166. The line for unhealthy air quality starts at 150.

Experts said the poor air quality comes after smoke from wildfires has hung over the area for an extended period of time.

An unhealthy AQI means everyone could start to experience effects to their health. This also means people with respiratory problems could start seeing more serious health effects.
