'We are in this together': Local Paralympian reacts to Paralympics postponement

Just a month ago Jaleen Roberts was training 6 days a week for the Paralympic games this summer. Those plans have suddenly changed.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash —

With the news of both Olympic and Paralympic games postponed until 2021, athletes around the world are taking to social media to express their thoughts.

Just a month ago Jaleen Roberts was training 6 days a week in Spokane Valley with her eyes set on the Paralympic games this summer. The Eastern Washington student is currently the best long jumper in the country and is a member of the USA Paralympic National Track and Field Team.

“It’s healthy to admit that you’re not okay. It’s okay not to be okay, that’s brave. But don’t let it win,” shared Roberts on a social media post.

The dedicated athlete has been training for 3 years and traveling the world in order to qualify for the Paralympics.

“For me personally I feel like I am in this alone but I have to remind myself that everyone is fighting their own battle and we are in this together. When we come out of this we will be stronger and even more united. The most important thing is to maintain a positive support system and thoughts,” she said.

The Olympics have only ever been rescheduled three times before, once because of World War I, and twice due to World War II.
