COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho --- The superintendent of District 271 in Coeur d’Alene resigned this week and accepted a new job.

The district announced Superintendent Matt Handelman’s move in a press release Friday afternoon.

School officials said Handelman will continue to serve as superintendent of schools until April 30, then will switch to a consulting role with the district through the end of the 2017 fiscal year.

District officials said in the release Handelman got a new job at Evergreen Public Schools, and the school board officially accepted the resignation on Friday.

“The Board will be meeting soon to begin discussions on the careful and thoughtful process that will need to take place in order to fill this critical position,” said board chair Casey Morrisroe in a release. “And as always, we will continue our focus on the mission of this District and serving its great students, staff and patrons.”

In the meantime, Dr. Trina Caudle, the current Director of Secondary Education, will serve as interim superintendent, district officials said.

Handelman had served as superintendent since July of 2013, according to the district website.
