SPOKANE, Wash. – If you live in Spokane and need eclipse glasses, well you are basically out of luck.

KREM 2 called eight places Tuesday and 16 others on Wednesday and no one has them.

The General Store, White Elephant, Shopko, Home Depot, Costco, Super 1 Foods and Rosauers said they never carried eclipse glasses and do not plan to. Best Buy, Fred Meyer, Ace Hardware, Lowes and Safeway are all sold out and do not expect to get anymore. That was also the case at Toys R’ Us, Big 5, Walmart and Bi-Mart.

On Tuesday KREM 2 learned Spokane Eye Clinic got 500 pairs of eclipse glasses at each of their three locations. We checked back in with the Spokane Eye Clinic on Wednesday and they said they ran out of glasses at all three locations within 45 minutes to an hour of the shipment arriving. Unfortunately, they do not plan to get any more.

KREM 2 also checked with both the Spokane City and Spokane County Libraries. They had thousands of eclipse glasses available at one point but they are now out. The county libraries are now holding hands-on solar eclipse activities where you can make a pinhole projector to safely view the eclipse.

Finally, KREM 2 checked with the Mobius Science Center. They were selling eclipse glasses but they are sold out now. Monday though, the day of the eclipse, the science center is holding an event that starts at 9:00 a.m. to view the eclipse. They said they are handing out eclipse glasses to the first 200 people. You will likely have to get there early though to get a pair.

KREM 2 also heard a rumor some of the Maverick gas stations might be getting some glasses. We called one of the stations and they did not have any and were not expecting to get any. KREM 2 reached out to their corporate offices but have not heard back yet. There are some glasses on Amazon but the prices have sky rocketed. Some people are also selling them on Craigslist. Before you buy one off Craigslist though make sure the glasses meet the ISO standard.
