Human remains at Coeur d'Alene construction site 50-200 years old

Contractors were preparing the area in Coeur d'Alene for construction when they found bones on the site, Rios said.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — The bones found at a Coeur d'Alene construction site on Tuesday are between 50 and 200 years old, experts said.

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department had the skeletal remains found near a construction site examined by a private labratory in Seattle, Wash.

Coeur d'Alene police said they contacted the Coeur d'Alene Tribe and the State Historic Preservation Office.

Officers with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department found the remains at a construction site in the 800 block of Mullan Avenue on Tuesday night, according to detective Mario Rios.

Contractors were preparing the area for construction when they found bones on the site, Rios said.

Officers and detectives responded to the scene and confirmed, with the assistance of the coroner, that the bones were human and sent them to the Seattle lab.

Police said it is no longer a criminal investigation. All road closures were lifted and the scene was released on Thursday.
