SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. --- Deputies arrested three suspects after a car chase that ended with the driver of a stolen car crashing into a mailbox.

Timothy Candler, 24, faces charges for theft of a motor vehicle and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and reckless driving. The two passengers in the car at the time, Amber Strausser, 27 and Jarrett Keefer, 20, also face theft of a motor vehicle charges.

Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Corporal Jeff Thurman said he heard over the scanner early Wednesday morning, an advisory about a black Dodge Ram truck that had just been stolen. Moments later, he saw the truck driving westbound on Indiana near Pines at an extremely high rate of speed. Thurman said he saw the truck run a red light and get on Interstate 90 heading westbound.

According to a release, Thurman caught up to Candler near the Argonne exit and turned on his emergency lights and siren. Officials said the truck began to smoke just before the suspect turned onto Bigelow Gulch from Argonne.

Deputies were able to successfully use spike strips to stop Candler at the intersection of Francis and Freya. Candler slowed down but lost control of the car as he turned south on Pittsburg from Crestline, and hit a curb and mailbox.

Officials said Candler admitted to popping the ignition with a screw driver and stealing the truck to go for a joyride.

He also told them he had just gotten out of prison for the same thing and was “very sorry.”
