LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A University of Louisville cross-country runner drew national attention after she stopped along with a Clemson runner to help a fellow competitor finish the race.

The race was the ACC championship and would be senior Rachel Pease’s last race of her collegiate career.

Pease says stopping to help the Boston College runner in need went far beyond sports.

“I really felt like my purpose on the team was to love and serve these girls and when I saw that girl on the ground, I was like ‘man, what a better thing God put in my live to serve this girl’ and I was like she needs help and I was strong enough to give her help,” she said.

While Pease was able to help a fellow runner finish her race, she too was hurting and said she had been feeling some pain about a mile into the race.
