Brother of former UW football star Budda Baker dies in Seattle shooting

Arizona Cardinal and former Huskies star Budda Baker posted a statement by his family on his Instagram page.

Robert Baker, the brother of Arizona Cardinal and University of Washington star Budda Baker, was killed in an overnight shooting in Seattle Ballard neighborhood.

While Seattle police have not confirmed the identity of the victim, saying they are waiting for the official report by the medical examiner's office, family members confirmed the news in a statement to KING 5 and have asked for privacy.

Budda Baker posted the statement on Instagram.

"On behalf of the Baker Family we want to thank everyone for their generous outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this extremely difficult time at the passing of our dearly beloved son, brother and husband, Robert Baker. We ask that you respect our family's privacy in this difficult time. - The Baker Family"

Police say the shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Sunday near Leary Avenue NW and 17th Avenue NW.

Officers found Baker, 29, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers performed CPR until relieved by Seattle firefighters, but he died on the way to the hospital.

So far, there's no word on a motive or a suspect.
