Next phase of Riverside Avenue construction begins Monday in downtown Spokane

The final phase of the Riverside Ave. reconstruction project gets started on Monday with closures between Stevens Street and Wall Street.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A new phase of construction begins Monday on Riverside Avenue in downtown Spokane. The latest work means Riverside Avenue will be closed from Stevens Street to Wall Street.

This closure is part of the final phase of the Riverside Avenue reconstruction project that began in June. The project focused on six blocks downtown and included underground utility work, new bus stops for the transit City Line, and a new road surface.

Also, between Division Street and Monroe Street, the road was reconfigured to include one lane in each direction for cars with dedicated bike lanes between the curb and on-street parking.

Here are the key closures for this phase of the project:

  • Riverside Avenue will be closed from Stevens to Wall Street
  • Stevens Street will be restricted to one lane starting at Spokane Falls Boulevard
  • Washington Street will have a single lane closure starting at Riverside Avenue

The entire project is expected to cost $4 million. The city says construction is expected to wrap sometime this fall but has not given a more specific timeline. However, Spokane Transit is warning riders to prepare for detours for approximately seven weeks.

Phase II of Riverside Avenue reconstruction is complete. Phase III will start tomorrow! #SpokaneStreets 🚧Riverside...
