SPOKANE, Wash. – The local “barbecue dad” Craigslist ad that went viral is back!

Travis Rybarski said Dane Anderson posted the ad that took social media by storm. Rybarski said they have actually hired a local barbecue dad and are looking to hire two more for their barbecue on June 17.

Although he did not identify which dad they hired, he did say “we chose him because he’s a classic dad with classic experience.”

The ad has gone viral, making the rounds on Twitter and Facebook and even the Today Show. Many viewers commented that Bill Murray should take on the role as BBQ Dad for the students.

"The Bill Murray thing, it was just part of the bit, we were like 'Wouldn't it be hilarious if we said we're only accepting Bill Murray?'" laughed Rybarski. "We want to stay true to our roots and hire locally. But Bill Murray is definitely invited."

In the ad, the group of 40-50 coeds who call themselves “The Boys” were looking for “a generic father figure” who can fulfill the following duties:

  • Grilling hamburgers and hotdogs
  • Bringing your own grill (though this is subject to change. We will provide all of the meat)
  • Refer to all attendees as "Big Guy', "Chief", "Sport", "Champ" etc.
  • Talk about dad things, like lawn mowers, building your own deck, Jimmy Buffet, etc. Funny anecdotes are highly encouraged.

The ad also noted that “preference will be given to applicants named Bill, Randy or Dave.”

Rybarski said despite the traction their Craigslist ad has gotten, they plan to keep the barbecue private.

"It makes us so happy that everyone is enjoying this bit with us," Rybarski said.
