Movie trailer released based on Gonzaga Prep alumni friends’ decades-long game of tag

Tag is based on three former Gonzaga Prep classmates who organize a game of tag each year.

SPOKANE, Wash.— A trailer for a new movie based on Spokane natives who kept their playground game of tag going into adulthood was released Tuesday.

"Tag" is a movie based on former Gonzaga Prep classmates and friends who organize a game of tag each year as a way to stay competitive and maintain their lifelong friendships.

In real life, 10 players have kept the tradition going for 23 years each February. It is not just any game of tag though, it can get very elaborate. Players have tried to tag one another from Seattle to San Francisco, the Bay Area to Los Angles and even from the west coast to Boston.

Now the game is focused on the northwest with five players in western Washington, four in Spokane and one in Montana. The rules are set by a contract and players aware of who is 'it' going into each new round.

The players have said that they hope all the attention to their game sends a positive message to the public.

The movie will hit theaters June 15.
